Third Year Experience
Physics Teaching Assistant
I continued my work as a physics TA in my third year at UC. In this position, I was able to review basic physics concepts and connect with students outside of the physics major. I taught both labs and recitations. Below is a picture of one of my friends who is also in the program, imitating me as a TA.
Supplemental Review Session Mentor
During the second semester of my third year, my supervisor for SRS (supplemental review sessions for math courses) asked me to mentor new session leaders. This was great leadership experience for me. In our meetings, I led conversations about the role as a teacher and the complex social interactions that come with teaching peers. I was able to meet many highly motivated people with common interests and form new relationships with people I likely wouldn't have met otherwise.
Math and Science Support Center Tutor
I continued my work at the MASS center during both my first and second semesters. I've really enjoyed the community I have in the MASS center and it allowed me more contact time with the students who I TA'd for. Below is a picture of my supervisor for the MASS tables.
University of Colorado Boulder REU
For the summer, I moved to Colorado to conduct research on third-generation solar cells at SEEL. I was able to find hot-carriers, which you can think of as super-energetic electrons, in multiple solar cells. This discovery was important because it will hopefully contribute to making more efficient solar-energy converters. During my time here, I realized that research is not my passion and that I am more interested in pursuing teaching as a career.
